PRODUCT UPDATES

This week’s updates include new tools for testing the device gateway, standardized online status reporting, and improved CoreApp performance.

Test the New Device Gateway Endpoint

We’ve added a new network endpoint testing tool to help you prepare for the upcoming migration to the new device gateway. This tool allows you to manually switch a selected device to the new gateway endpoint (gateway.root.signageos.io) and verify that it connects correctly within your customer’s network and firewall settings before the full roll-out.

How it works:

  • Open the device’s detail page in Box
  • Go to the Info tab → Test new device gateway section
  • Toggle the switch to New gateway — the change applies within 2 minutes
  • Box monitors the connection and confirms success or failure

This proactive testing ensures your infrastructure is ready ahead of the company-wide migration in the next three months.

Standardized Online Status & Aliveness

We’re standardizing how Online status and device aliveness are determined across signageOS to deliver more accurate and consistent device reporting. Multiple data sources are being unified under a single, standardized model for greater reliability.

We’re also refining online/offline list calculations to filter out very short connection intervals better, which means any uptime under two minutes will now be excluded. This ensures cleaner, more meaningful insights into real device performance and uptime.

Users getting online statuses from signageOS REST API should use ONLINE_STATUS in the /device/telemetry endpoint.

BrightSign CoreApp Release 2.3.4

BrightSign’s latest patch includes additional improvements to video playback reliability and debugging options. To comply with the RED directive, Local DWS is now disabled by default.

Previous releases of 2.3 (2.3.0, 2.3.1, 2.3.2, and 2.3.3) will be removed from Box UI, though users can continue using them by enforcing these versions via Policy or direct installation links.

New Versions: Tizen, webOS, and BrightSign

In preparation for the Fall release of CoreApps, the team has dropped new beta versions for Tizen, webOS, and BrightSign.

The Fall release focuses on overall improvements, with the main theme being the launch of new features.

Continuous Performance Enhancements

Our backend team is delivering several key upgrades that improve general responsiveness and platform speed.

Large-scale changes (20K+ devices) are now processed up to 6× faster, and overall system performance has increased across most day-to-day tasks.
